Since hosting its first performance in 1977, the theatre space has hosted thousands of productions, workshops, classes and has nurtured generations of local artists and audiences. It is made up of three unique performance spaces:

Genevieve Becroft Auditorium: a 192 seat end stage theatre.
Outdoor Amphitheatre: picturesque brick amphitheatre for up to 200 people.
Coal Bunker Studio: a backstage space for small performances and live comedy.

Today, The PumpHouse Theatre is a vibrant, inclusive, artist-led arts centre operating as a venue for hire that proudly supports and encourages artists with a story to tell.

The theatre calendar offers unique diversity, ranging from plays, musicals, dance, traditional outdoor Summer Shakespeare, stand-up comedy and concerts to psychic mediums, book launches and motivational speakers. Some well-known Kiwi thespians got their first taste of performing live on stage at The PumpHouse.

The PumpHouse is administered by The North Shore Theatre and Arts Trust and run by a small multi skilled team of theatre professionals.
