Venture Southland was established in 2001 as a joint initiative of the Invercargill City, Southland District and Gore District Councils.

Venture Southland is funded through contributions from key stakeholders Invercargill City, Southland District and Gore District Councils and also receives contributions from the Community Trust of Southland and Environment Southland.
